Our Story
Sudstone began as a dream—literally. Amber woke one morning with a vivid dream of a gua sha-shaped soap bar. Excited by the idea, she shared it with her best friend, Birdy Cobb, who said “let’s do it!”. They came up with a plan together to turn that dream into a reality by blending their unique skills to create a skincare brand as intentional as it is inspired.
The two met at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, where they became best friends. Amber, raised in Kāne‘ohe, Hawai‘i, grew up surrounded by lush landscapes, native plants, and a strong local culture and community that is one of a kind. Her health challenges as a child inspired a lifelong dedication to organic, holistic living and creative expression. Birdy was raised in Colorado, blessed to enjoy the beautiful nature of the Rocky Mountains. After moving to Hawai‘i at seventeen she embraced the island’s unbeatable culture and soon started her career after graduating. The pair were inspired by the connection the community shared with the land. This experience, alongside Amber's childhood surrounded by local farmers, drove the idea to source Sudstone’s ingredients from farms across Hawai'i. These products not only promote clean beauty from the earth but also uplift local agriculture.
Amber and Birdy both struggled with acne, and understand how crucial it is to feel confident in your own skin. Constantly buying endless products and chasing internet trends to meet expectations, the girls shared a sense of overwhelming exhaustion. After trial and error they realized less is more. Rather than listening to the noise they listened to themselves, and wanted to offer others the same empowerment. Sudstone was the answer they had been looking for. They believe confidence comes from within, and radiates with glowing skin.
Sudstone’s story wouldn’t exist without their tight-knit community, who embraced their vision and fostered its growth. Friends, family, and local farmers came together to support this labor of love, providing inspiration and resources to make Sudstone a reality.
Today, Sudstone is more than just a skincare brand—it’s a testament to the power of community, creativity, and thoughtful care, crafted for those seeking gentle, effective solutions rooted in the beauty of Hawai‘i.

Each of our bars is crafted with ingredients sourced directly from farms across Hawai‘i, embodying our commitment to a farm-to-face philosophy. Part of our mission is to uplift local agriculture, bringing attention to the incredible produce available straight from local farms rather than imported goods.
As proud alumni of the University of Hawai‘i, we strive to maintain strong ties with our alma mater. Many of the farms we work with collaborate with UH Mānoa, and we continue to seek guidance and valued insights from our former professors. For us, Sudstone is more than skincare—it’s a celebration of connection & community, dedicated to the people who make it all possible.
